SpaceX launches its European mission Hera to study a deviated asteroid

The aerospace company SpaceX successfully launched the European Hera mission on October 7, which will study the impact of a NASA spacecraft against the asteroid Dimorphos.

"This mission is part of the planetary defense and this is our contribution of the European Space Agency (ESA, in English) to humanity to help us in the future to protect our planet," said Josef Aschbacher, director general of the ESA, after the launch.

 The Hera ship, which began its two-year journey from the US Space Force base in Cape Canaveral (Florida), will study the impact of the DART (binary asteroid redirection test) mission on the surface of Dimorphos, with el que chocó el 26 de septiembre de 2022.
