The figure includes some 40,000 affected people in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, more than 110,000 in Grenada and another 920,000 in Jamaica, comes from the latest update from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
OCHA calls Beryl the "most powerful hurricane in history in the Atlantic Ocean during the month of June" and highlights that the full extent of its damage remains under evaluation.
In turn, the International Organization for Migration reports that in Grenada the hurricane severely hit the islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique, where 70% and 97% of the buildings were damaged, respectively.
In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Beryl hit 90% of the homes on Union Island and almost all buildings on Canouan Island, tearing off roofs and causing water and electricity outages.
