Magnitude 5.8 earthquake jolts Japan’s Fukushima province

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake has shaken Japan northeastern prefecture of Fukushima, according to the country’s meteorological agency.

Before the tremors, which were centered in Fukushima, locals received warnings from the national earthquake alert system. Seismologists issued a warning of a tsunami following the quake, but withdrew it just minutes later. The tremors were felt in Tokyo.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage, or any emergencies at the mothballed Fukushima nuclear power plant.
