Hundreds have been evacuated as a result of flooding in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. The cataclysm was caused by violent downpours that lasted there for two days. Rivers and streams burst from their banks, and avalanches of mud and stones descended from the hills and mountains.
The weather improves, but the red alert remains for today, Thursday 4 May, in Emilia-Romagna yesterday overwhelmed by a wave of bad weather that caused two deaths and extensive damage. According to what the Civil Protection communicates, it remains high criticality due to hydraulic risk concerns four areas in particular: the Bolognese plain of the Reno and its tributaries, the Bolognese hills, the Romagna coast, the lower hills and the Romagna plain.
On Thursday 4 May bad weather will also affect some regions of the South with the yellow alert for thunderstorms or hydrogeological risk issued for Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily and Lombardy. The yellow alert also concerns some areas of Emilia-Romagna: the Ferrara coast, the Po and Po di Volano plains of Ferrara, the Secchia and Panaro plains of Modena and the lower eastern plains.
