Residentes huyen en pánico mientras un volcán entra en erupción en Indonesia

 El volcán Semeru, en el sureste de la isla indonesia de Java, entró este sábado en erupción, sumiendo en la oscuridad a las poblaciones aledañas al monte y provocando pánico entre los residentes, que fueron grabados huyendo mientras a sus espaldas avanza una enorme nube de humo y ceniza.

 El servicio de vulcanología situó en el nivel 2 (sobre un máximo de 4) el riesgo en la zona y emitió una alerta de vuelo para los aviones que circulen en las proximidades. No hubo informes de víctimas.

 A volcano on the Indonesian island of Java is erupting, sending a vast plume of ash into the sky and blanketing nearby villages, reports say.

Residents near Mt Semeru in eastern Java have been fleeing and rescuers are travelling into the affected area.

Local news agency Antara said a thick rain of volcanic ash was blotting out the Sun in two local districts.

  1. Over a dozen people were killed and nearly 100 residents were injured after a volcano erupted on the Indonesian island of Java. The eruption, which occurred during a rainstorm, saw mud flows cutting off roads and destroying homes.

    Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency (BNPB) has confirmed the death of 13 people as result of the eruption of Semeru volcano that began spewing ash on Saturday, blocking the sun completely at one point.

    The eruption coincided with heavy rains, and saw ash turning into thick mud and obliterating a key bridge and homes on its path. Gladak Perak Bridge, a local landmark connecting two villages, was reported to have been completely destroyed by the mudflows.

    1. The village of Sumberwuluh located close to the volcano was hit the hardest. Footage posted online shows deserted houses reduced to piles of debris. Most of the villagers were evacuated to a temporary shelter. Overall, over 900 people have been evacuated from the area.

    2. Some 98 people, including two pregnant women, suffered injuries in the eruption. The majority of those hospitalized were treated for burns.
