The most powerful jolt, eventually upgraded by the US Geological Survey to magnitude 6.0, happened at 3:49pm local time, some 150 miles east of Sacramento. Within the next two hours the area was rattled by over 50 aftershocks ranging between 2.5 and 4.6 on the Richter scale.
The quake was the “result of normal faulting in the shallow crust of the North America plate,” USGS said, noting however that there is a small chance this was a foreshock of a larger earthquake, according to CBS Sacramento.

Un sismo de magnitud 4,2 se ha registrado la tarde de este jueves en California (EE.UU.), con el epicentro localizado a 30 kilómetros al sureste de Markleeville, según el Servicio Geológico de EE.UU. (USGS, por sus siglas en inglés).
ReplyDeleteDe momento, no se informa de víctimas ni de daños materiales a consecuencia del movimiento telúrico, que ha tenido una profundidad de 3,3 kilómetros.
El pasado 12 de junio, se registró en California un terremoto de magnitud 4,3, cuyo epicentro se situó a 13 kilómetros al suroeste de Niland. En esa ocasión tampoco se informó de víctimas ni de daños materiales.
