Fears of severe water shortages are rising in the western United States, as the region endures a "megadrought" that is creating exceptionally dry conditions across several states.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, about 54 percent of land in the region is experiencing extreme or exceptional drought.
It's prompting farmers in California to brace for an economic disaster as fields are left unplanted, while the drought could also potentially cut off Arizona and New Mexico's water supply from the Colorado River.
