Two cars of a passenger train have derailed in eastern Taiwan, leaving one person dead and two more injured, the Central News Agency (CNA) reported on Friday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred at 9.00 am local time inside the Daqing tunnel, when the second and the third cars came off the rails hitting the walls of the tunnel.
The train, bound for Taitung, was carrying 350 people. 60 people have already been rescued out of the first three cars, while the fourth and fifth car are seriously damaged.
CNA also reported that more people are feared dead as a result of the incident. According to CCTV, at least four passengers are feared dead and more than 20 injured....

The accident occurred at the start of the annual Tomb Sweeping festival, a typically high traffic period.
Taiwan has suffered its worst rail disaster in decades, with 48 people reported killed and over a hundred others injured after a derailment inside a tunnel. A runaway construction crane has been blamed for the incident.
ReplyDeleteRescuers from the fire department have finished the operation at the Qingshui Tunnel in Hualien county, evacuating all people trapped inside it following the incident on Friday morning. It reported a total of 48 deaths in the disaster, including the train’s driver. One of the fatalities was reportedly pronounced dead in hospital rather than at the scene.....rt
