Flooding in Quebec prompts state of emergency in Montreal

The mayor of Montreal declared a state of emergency over flooding from heavy rain.

The city, which had three dikes give way, is one of 140 Quebec communities struck by floods.

The crisis, caused by melting snow and a week of rain, prompted the evacuation of 1,900 homes thus far.

The flooding is expected to worsen Monday, with more rain forecast for southern Quebec.

Montreal Mayor Denis Corderre said he was advised water levels will stabilize Tuesday and begin to recede by Wednesday.
