Dozens missing after Typhoon Megi causes landslide in China (video)

Dozens of people were reported missing and at least 20 buildings destroyed after Typhoon Megi caused a landslide in eastern China's Zhejiang province Wednesday.


Rescue operations were underway in Suichang county and 27 people were confirmed missing, according to the People's Daily in China.

Earlier, Typhoon Megi killed at least five people and injured more than 600 in Taiwan and China.

Several structures collapsed in the Chinese town of Quanzhou and one person was killed, the China News Service said.

The storm made landfall in China's southeastern province of Fujian at 4:40 a.m. with winds up to 74 mph, China's meteorological administration said. It issued a red alert, the highest in a four-tiered system

Widespread flooding was reported and more than 120,000 fishermen were evacuated and more than 30,000 boats were recalled to port for shelter in Fujian province, CCTV said.

Taiwan's east coast was still recovering from the typhoon.

At least 523 people were reported injured in Taiwan, the island's emergency operation center said, and about 14,000 people were evacuated.

More than 3.7 million households lost electricity, state-owned utility Taiwan Power said. Financial markets closed for a second day in Taipei.
