At least 21 people died and five were injured after a high-pressure steam pipe burst at a power plant in central China's Hubei Province.
The pipe burst about 3:20 p.m. local time Thursday at Madian Gangue Power Generation Co. Ltd. in Dangyang City. Three people were seriously injured. Local authorities are investigating the cause.
The coal-fired plant, founded in 2002, generates power and sells slag ash and petroleum products.
Industrial accidents have become common in China, where safety standards are lax. About a year ago, more than 50 people died and more than 700 were injured after a series of explosions at a chemical warehouse.
