Rain, floods kill 36 in north-west Pakistan

A Pakistani national disaster management official says flash floods triggered by torrential rains have killed at least 36 people in the country’s north-west.

Mr Latif ur Rehman says the rains started overnight and caused flash flooding Sunday (April 3) in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He says another 27 people have been admitted to hospitals with injuries.

Flash floods are commonly triggered during South Asia’s summer monsoon season.

Mr Rehman says residents of scores of villages close to rivers have been given warning to vacate and leave for safer places.
