The Albanian Daily News reported on Thursday that heavy downpours have caused floods, landslides and road closures in several parts of Albania, including the cities of Tirana and Vlora.
Over 200 people were evacuated from their residences in the municipality of Lezha, where emergency measures were enforced along sections of the Drini River.
The outskirts of Tirana were also affected, and thousands of families had been evacuated.
Several highways and regional roads were temporarily blocked due to landslides.
In response to the disasters, the Albanian army mobilized 180 soldiers, a helicopter and 20 vehicles.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of deaths or serious injuries as of press time.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi stated that the government has allotted $25 million to local officials to fund irrigation and drainage programs, and that 30 or 40 cranes will be handed over to various municipalities across the country.
