Χαιρετίζοντας την έγκριση του πακέτου, ο Επίτροπος Περιβάλλοντος, Θαλάσσιας Πολιτικής και Αλιείας, Karmenu Vella , υπογράμμισε τη συμβολή που θα έχει το πρόγραμμα στην αειφόρο ανάπτυξη.
Όπως είπε, το πακέτο αυτό διασφαλίζει ότι τα χρήματα θα χρησιμοποιηθούν για έργα που θα προσφέρουν μακροπρόθεσμα αποτελέσματα καθώς δίνει έμφαση στην οικονομική, περιβαλλοντική και κοινωνική βιωσιμότητα.
Οι Κύπριοι ψαράδες και ιχθυοκαλλιεργητές, καθώς και οι αλιευτικές κοινότητες, πρόσθεσε, θα επωφεληθούν από περισσότερες ευκαιρίες για απασχόληση και ανάπτυξη και από μεγαλύτερη ασφάλεια.
Πιο συγκεκριμένα, τα κονδύλια από το πρόγραμμα θα χρηματοδοτήσουν έργα που θα βελτιώσουν το βιοτικό επίπεδο των αλιευτικών κοινοτήτων, για παράδειγμα μέσω της βελτίωσης των υποδομών ή την παροχή νέων ευκαιριών επαγγελματικής ανάπτυξης, θα περιορίσουν τις επιπτώσεις της αλιείας στο θαλάσσιο περιβάλλον, θα διασφαλίσουν την ισορροπία μεταξύ της αλιευτικής ικανότητας και των αλιευτικών δυνατοτήτων που παρέχονται και θα προωθήσουν έναν οικονομικά και περιβαλλοντικά βιώσιμο τομέα υδατοκαλλιέργειας και μεταποίησης.

ReplyDeleteThe European Commission has adopted a key investment package for the Cypriot maritime, fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The roughly €53m available for the period 2014-2020 include more than €39m of EU funds.
Welcoming the adoption, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella stressed the programme's contribution to sustainable growth: "With its emphasis on economic, environmental and social sustainability, this investment package ensures that money is used for projects that deliver long-term results. Cypriot fishermen and fish farmers as well as fishing communities will benefit from greater security and more opportunities for jobs and growth."
The adopted operational programme (OP) is fully in line with the priorities of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) and the EU's Common Fisheries Policy. It will promote environmentally sustainable, resource efficient, innovative, and competitive and knowledge based fisheries and aquaculture.
In particular, funds will flow to projects that improve the livelihood of fishing communities – for instance through better infrastructure or new professional development opportunities –, limit the impact of fishing on the marine environment, ensure the balance between fishing capacity and available fishing opportunities, and promote economically and environmentally sustainable aquaculture and processing sectors.................http://ec.europa.eu/newsroom/mare/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=24488
