Athens said this week it will stop the sale of a majority stake in
Greece's biggest port, China's trade ministry said on Thursday...
The Greek government last year had shortlisted China's Cosco Group as a potential buyer of a 67 percent stake in Piraeus Port Authority.
But Greece stopped the sale this week, saying it would be put on hold as newly elected Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras halted privatization plans agreed under Greece's bailout deal.
“We are paying a great deal of attention,” Shen Danyang, the spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce, said when asked about the suspended deal.
“We urge the Greek government to protect the legitimate interests of Chinese companies in Greece, including those of Cosco,” he said.
Greece's reversal of the privatization deals struck under its bailout has pummeled its financial markets, with Greek bank stocks plunging more than 26 percent on Wednesday.

China on Friday urged Sri Lanka to maintain the legitimate interests of Chinese enterprises after the new Sri Lankan government suspended a China-funded port project in Colombo...
ReplyDelete"We have been informed by the Sri Lankan government of the decision, which stressed the project was 'suspended', not 'cancelled'," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.
The Sri Lankan government announced on Thursday that it had suspended the 1.5-billion-U.S.-dollar Chinese project in Colombo based on a reevaluation of the deal. Stakeholders were reportedly concerned over the project's environmental standards and a lack of transparency in the deal.
China will closely follow the development of the situation, Hua said, urging Sri Lanka to "properly resolve the issue in a way that helps Sri Lanka's development and maintains the confidence of Chinese firms investing in Sri Lanka".
"The Sri Lankan side promised to keep in contact and consultation with China regarding following arrangements," Hua told a regular press briefing.................http://www.china.org.cn/world/2015-03/06/content_34979002.htm
