The death toll from Typhoon Ineng (international name: Goni) that has lashed the Philippines rose to 15, dozens sustained injuries and 19 people are still missing, a police official said Sunday.
The Philippine online media Journal quoted director of police regional office Isagani Nerez as saying retrieval operations were underway to find possible survivors.
Alexander Pama, head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), said about 34 landslides, floods and other disaster incidents were caused by Ineng. According to the NDRRMC, some 7,500 families or about 32,500 individuals were evacuated amid the catastrophe.
The epicenter of the typhoon is located about 270 miles northeast of Basco, the capital of the northernmost Philippine region.
